Overview
MiniMax M3.1 Flash is MiniMax's fast, low-cost reasoning model for agents, coding, computer use and security work, released on October 19, 2026. The Zurelay MiniMax M3.1 Flash API serves it through one OpenAI-compatible endpoint with a 1M-token context window and image and video input, at 60% below MiniMax's list price.
MiniMax released M3.1 Flash on October 19, 2026 as the MiniMax-M3.1-Flash API model, and describes it as an ultra-efficient model for everyday work. It is the first model of the M3.1 generation: MiniMax says a larger Pro model will follow, and that it will publish the weights later. On Zurelay the MiniMax M3.1 Flash API model ID is minimax-m3.1-flash, and it costs $0.06 per 1M input tokens and $0.24 per 1M output tokens.
MiniMax's reported results center on agent work. M3.1 Flash scores 73.7% on DeepSWE v1.1 for software engineering, 61.7 on OSWorld V2 and 29.6 on Agents' Last Exam for computer use, 76.2 on BankerToolBench for multi-step finance work and 82% on CyberGym for finding and verifying vulnerabilities. MiniMax says that on agentic tasks its overall usage cost is 70% lower than its predecessor's.
MiniMax made M3.1 Flash faster with more aggressive sparsity, and reports output speeds above 200 tokens per second, with a median above 170. It reads text, images and video and writes text, with a context window of 1,000,000 tokens. MiniMax charges one rate at every prompt length, and so does Zurelay.
M3.1 Flash always thinks before it answers; MiniMax's API refuses a request that switches thinking off. reasoning_effort sets how much it thinks, from low to max, and MiniMax runs max when a request leaves it out. The model fixes temperature at 1 and top_p at 0.95, so sampling settings have no effect. In agent loops, send each full assistant message back, so the model keeps its reasoning between tool calls.
Strengths
MiniMax reports 73.7% on DeepSWE v1.1, 61.7 on OSWorld V2 and 76.2 on BankerToolBench, at half the list price of MiniMax M3.
More aggressive sparsity lets MiniMax serve it at over 200 tokens per second, with a median above 170.
Send screenshots, charts, scanned pages and video clips next to your text, in the same request.
Five reasoning levels, from low for quick steps to max for hard problems, set per request with reasoning_effort.
Use cases
Multi-file fixes, refactors and terminal tasks in agent harnesses, with reasoning carried between tool calls.
Agents that read screenshots and operate apps and browsers over many steps, the work OSWorld V2 measures.
Multi-step work across documents, files and tools in sales, finance, operations and support.
Code audits, vulnerability finding and patching, which MiniMax tests on CyberGym.

$0.13 / $0.51 per 1M tokens
Pick MiniMax M3 when you want to switch thinking off for quick answers. M3.1 Flash always thinks, and costs less per token.
MiniMax M3 API$0.03 / $0.12 per 1M tokens
Pick DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 for a lower price per token and thinking you can switch off. It reads text and images, not video.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 API$0.07 / $0.22 per 1M tokens
Pick Qwen 3.8 Flash when you also need PDF input next to images and video.
Qwen 3.8 Flash APIOn Zurelay, minimax-m3.1-flash costs $0.06 per 1M input tokens and $0.24 per 1M output tokens, with cached input at $0.006. MiniMax's list price is $0.15 input and $0.60 output per 1M, so you save 60%. Reasoning tokens count as output.
Yes. Zurelay serves minimax-m3.1-flash at 60% below MiniMax's list price, at one rate for every prompt length. You pay from prepaid credit with no subscription, and failed requests are never billed.
Install the official openai package, set base_url to https://api.zurelay.com/v1 and use your Zurelay API key. Then send a Chat Completions request with model set to "minimax-m3.1-flash". Zurelay also accepts MiniMax's own name, MiniMax-M3.1-Flash, and minimax/minimax-m3.1-flash, so existing code only needs a new base URL and key.
1,000,000 tokens. On Zurelay the price per token stays the same up to the full window. M3.1 Flash takes text, images and video as input and writes text.
Yes. Add image_url parts for images (PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF) and video_url parts for video (MP4, MOV, AVI or MKV), each as an https link or a base64 data URL. Images and video count as input tokens. It doesn't take audio or PDF files; for those, use Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite.
No. M3.1 Flash always thinks, and MiniMax's API refuses a request that switches thinking off. Set reasoning_effort to low for the least thinking; on Zurelay, none and minimal run at low. Without a level, the model thinks at max, MiniMax's default, which takes longer and writes more reasoning tokens.
M3.1 Flash is MiniMax's newer and faster model, and MiniMax lists it at half M3's price per token. It reads video as well as images, has five reasoning levels and always thinks, while M3 can switch thinking off. M3's open weights are public; M3.1 Flash's are still to come.
Not yet. MiniMax says it will release the model weights later, but at launch M3.1 Flash is available only through APIs, and MiniMax hasn't named a license.
Yes. Pass tools as you would to any OpenAI model, and send each full assistant message back in the conversation so the model keeps its reasoning between calls. Set stream: true, and add stream_options.include_usage to get token counts in the final chunk. Each Zurelay API key can have its own monthly budget and requests-per-minute cap.
Yes. Requests for minimax-m3.1-flash run on MiniMax's M3.1 Flash, and Zurelay doesn't quietly swap in a different model: if you turn on smart routing and M3.1 Flash is down, the response names the model that answered. Responses are sampled, so wording varies between runs. Zurelay is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by MiniMax.
Create a key in seconds, point the SDK you already use at Zurelay, and every request costs up to 90% less from the first token.
