In the Claude apps, check the table above: if claude.ai shows an incident, there's nothing to fix on your side; the incident's page has Anthropic's updates. If it names only one model, switch to another Claude model in the model menu.

On the API, the error type tells you whose problem it is:

Anthropic's SDKs retry 5xx errors and rate limits twice by default, with backoff; raise max_retries for batch work. Since most incidents hit one model, falling back to another Claude model (Sonnet when Opus errors, say) keeps most apps running. In Claude Code, /model switches mid-session.

On Zurelay, each Claude model is served over several routes run by independent sellers, and a request that fails on one moves to the next; attempts that fail aren't billed. With smart routing on, the closest other model answers if every route for a model is down. The same key works for Claude Code and the Anthropic SDKs.

Is the Claude API down, or just claude.ai?

Anthropic tracks them separately: claude.ai, the Claude Console, the Claude API (api.anthropic.com) and Claude Code each have their own status. An incident with the apps or their connectors can leave the API working, and the other way round. The table at the top of this page shows each one.

What does Claude's 529 overloaded error mean?

HTTP 529 overloaded_error means Anthropic's API is temporarily overloaded across all users, not that your request or key is wrong. Retry with exponential backoff; Anthropic's SDKs already retry twice by default. A 500 api_error is an internal error and is retried the same way.

Why do I get 429 errors when Claude isn't down?

A 429 rate_limit_error means your organization hit a rate limit, its usage tier's monthly spend cap, or a sudden-growth limit. It isn't an outage: wait for the retry-after header, raise your limits in the Claude Console, or spread traffic out.
